Whoa!

Hard to believe its been 8 months since I was last on here...crazy. But its been a good 8 months! Moved home, got the best job ever, bought a house, got married, inherited two great kids...the list goes on and on! Maybe now I will have some free time to make this stupid thing worth reading... ;)

Alces alces

So, I really really really wanted to see a moose while I worked here in Baraga. I drove around popular moose areas in search of the illusive largest member of the deer family. Unfortunately, unless I can find one in the next 20 hours, I am probably out of luck on that one. Now that I have said that, watch me hit one with my car on the way out of town tomorrow...crap.

Two of our wonderful forester guys, Brad and Jason, were out setting corners today and found not one, but two moose antlers! Upon first inspection it looks like a pair, and they found them close together- but its actually from two separate critters. How cool! I am insanely jealous...

Hhhhmmm just a note moose gods, if you are listening...tomorrow is my last day in Baraga...just one little ole moose please?????

Long time no see...

So I was reminded today that I have been a depressed loser for the past two months and have neglected my blog (thanks Vaas). So here goes!

So remember how I mentioned earlier that one of my favorite falls were Munising Falls, especially in the winter time? I made a stop there back in January on my way downstate one evening, and when I snowshoed back in was surprised to find that the falls were not even really frozen yet! But that made from some pretty cool photos, and now I can say that I have seen these falls in various states of awesomeness ;)

 I have seen these falls totally frozen, so to see them in the halfway stage being froze was pretty cool!

 It looked like a huge windchime, with all of the water flowing behind the outside shell of ice, making cool tinkling and cracking noises.

 So I will once again try to be better about this- maybe I will even stop at some cool places on my trip to move home tomorrow for more pics! I actually have a whole slug of cool UP pics that I should inundate this blog with...  :)

What I did on my Christmas vacation...

Enjoyed the hell out of everyday, that's what I did! I got to spend a couple of days of quality time with the family (check the next post for that!), didn't think about the yucky things in life too much, saw some good friends, spent lots of quality time with the boy, caught some fishes, and remembered how lucky I am to be surrounded by ya'll <3

There is one thing that living in Baraga has made me realize- I have a kick ass life. When I am home I do great things, go fun places, and spend time with people who are absolutely incredibly awesome- and yes I miss that terribly.

Ahhh Buddha, you're wrong.

I like lunar eclipses. I remember being little and my mom waking me up to go out to the kitchen and crawl into the east window to watch them. One of those spiffy earthy coincidences that doesn't occur all that often, the kind you should always stop and take a minute to enjoy.

I stayed up in order to catch the very cool lunar eclipse. Not that staying up until 1 or 2 in the morning is unusual, since I don't sleep worth a damn up here, but today I stayed up with a purpose- only to be foiled. Of course it is cloudy here in Baraga, and so I cannot see the eclipse- but I do get to listen to my friends back home who are currently watching the previously mentioned eclipse. Poo. Baraga gives me a glimmer of hope that I get to see something cool, then yanks it away. Double poo.

But alas, not all is lost. I did get to take some very cool pictures of the moon before its little event that I am missing...

There is in fact an I in quitter...

So my goal, while a noble attempt at saving my sanity, has failed. It has been absolutely terrifyingly cold up here (-11 when I left for work this morning...) and I am not sure that it is ever light out. Maybe it is, but it occurs during the hours where I am stuck inside a warm building. But there again I will trade heat for daylight, that's ok too. Did I mention it was bitter cold? I absolutely hate winter to begin with...maybe I was entirely too optimistic to think that I wouldn't have to be here the entire winter. I am wondering if I could deduct my monthly tanning package as the cost of treatment for seasonal depression?

Anywho, I got stuck in Frankfort this weekend since we got a ton of snow and there was no way that I was driving in that blizzard, so this time my trip back was in the daylight. So I stopped in Marquette on one of my regularly scheduled stops (I drink lots of Redbull and Mt. Dew on my drive back and forth) and took some pics.

Tonight I had to venture over to L'Anse, since the grocery store in Baraga doesn't really like to keep food in stock. I mean seriously, its not like people need chicken or milk...but I digress. L'Anse does a pretty fun job with the Christmas decorations, and I love Christmas so checking out all of the trees and lights was a little bit of a pick-me-up.

This is actually Baraga's one and only Christmas decoration.
